Course Aim
This course covers the operation and maintenance of four-wheel drive vehicles in the resources and infrastructure industries.
Course Description
It includes identifying four-wheel drive specific terms, terminology and techniques, planning for minimal environmental impact, performing pre-departure checks, using the features of a four-wheel drive vehicle to drive in a variety of terrain types, and performing maintenance and minor repairs on four-wheel drive vehicles. This course will provide drivers with the advanced skills, knowledge and experience to safely operate and maintain a commercial light 4WD vehicle.
Successful completion and assessment of this course will result in the applicant being awarded a statement of attainment in the nationally recognised unit of competency:

Training Program
- Observation techniques
- Hazard identification, prevention and management
- Vehicle dynamics
- Fatigue management & alcohol
- ABS, ESC, EBD, BAS
- 4WD transmission & transmission windup
- Identifying four wheel drive recovery equipment and characteristics
- Vehicle recovery with correct use of a single snatch strap
- Driver seating position and seat belts
- Extended pre-operational vehicle check
- Conduct routine operational servicing
- Carry out minor maintenance and repairs
- Correct loading
- Planning for environmental impact
- Commentary drive
- Sealed road and/or gravel road driving
- Driving in difficult terrain inc negotiating variety of obstacles
- Hill stall recovery procedure
- Emergency ABS braking exercises
- Emergency brake and evade exercises
Course Requirements:
- Current manual Driver's License
Maximum Participants per Instructor:
- 4 Drivers per day
Course Price:
- $350 per person incl. 4WD Vehicle
- Re-assessment and any associated costs will be considered on an individual basis.
